Questions From Prospective Students
Thanks for your questions.
On the exams, first of all there are very few of them. We are a professional program so we concentrate more on producing professional products (scenarios, plans, etc.) rather than examinations which test knowledge, but not necessarily skill. What few exams we have are web-based and administered through our learning platform.
On coming to Houston, it is common for distant programs to require some type of residency requirement. We established the program as an experiment to see if we could offer a quality degree without such a requirement, and so far we are happy with the result. Attending the program for short periods is always an option, and those who have done it are pleased to meet everyone in Houston, but it is not a requirement. We have been open to distant students themselves arranging a time to meet with everyone in Houston, but so far that has not materialized.
We also have the short one-week Certificate program for professionals like yourself who have foresight responsibilities. You can find out more at http://www.tech.uh.edu/Departments/Human_Development_and_Consumer_Sciences/Certificates_and_Seminars/Strategic_Foresight/. That program is currently offered only in Houston.
I hope that answers your questions. And you can always contact me at pbishop@uh.edu if you would like to discuss this further...
